Depression Requires Proper Managment


We are living in a times where depression is common and inevitable. The more materialistic ways of life we accept the more stressful we are bound to be. The problem today's generations facing is that it is living in very isolated and alienated times. There is not much of support system left in the present time. Decades ago, we saw relatives, friends, and neighbours were great support system in difficult times and offered solace, solutions and shelter . In Kaliyuga, money unfortunately has become the only support system. The more we strive for earning wealth,relationships and luxuries the more stress we put on ourselves. However, taking care of our body and mind is our duty. When the mind is disturbed we can not focus on anything and In materialistic times it is difficult to practice anything for a long time.
Stress requires proper management, first and foremost is change of attitude. We have to take it positively, difficult situations that we come across are simply meant for transformation. Without stress we cannot grow, for example a weight lifter without lifting heavy weight cannot become a champion. Credit should also go to proper training behind a victory?.
Difficult situations may thus seem like punishment and suffering but this punishment is meant for rectification and transformation. So tackling depression with positivism is one aspect. In Bhagwat Gita, Krishna tells to Arjuna to get rid of depression and do something positive. A moment of difficulty in life is meant to rise us up and choose right actions with conviction and determination.
Second aspect for treating depression is by taking proper guidance of a psychiatrist and by taking appropriate medicines. Medicines are meant to treat our body well. Yoga mixed with Ayurvedic medicines is one of the best way to treat depression. According to the Harvard Mental Health Letter, Yoga and controlled breathing have been proved an effective method to treat stress, anxiety, and depression.
Third aspect of solving depression is by building strong spiritual foundation. We don’t know the baggage we have of past karma behind our problems and the karmic reactions do hit us hard. For eradicating those karmic reactions taking shelter of chanting the maha mantra ( Hare krsna, hare krsna, krsna krsna hare hare, hare ram hare ram ram ram hare hare) is recommended in kaliyuga. We all have to fight a war and enemy attacks us with different weapons. why not try spiritual process along with those medicines, yoga, to counteract this (depression) a weapon of maya? Holy name has powers and it frees us from effects of bad karma and also curbs the mentality of doing bad karma- bad habits for that matter.

Superior guidance always helps. Pandavas were grief stricken in exile but they made sure they meet sadhus and always remember krsna which helped them in those difficult times.
